based in bristol, space hardware is a project headed up by hypercolour boss jamie russell that is rooted in an appreciation of p­-funk and the outermost hemispheres of soul and disco. so far the imprint has released material from glenn astro, blacksmif, deft and placeholder and, continuing to shapeshift with each new 12-, the next in the series comes courtesy of apollo and delsin affiliate bakradze. also operating under his gacha and winter flags aliases, bakradze is an artist who uses his own live instrumentation, an mpc and classic korg synths to build rich and woozy melodies that he anchors down with technical rhythm structures. his message from home delves deep into this framework and is packed with a serious degree of flair. astute sound design, balmy guitar tones and loose, natural drum patterns pepper an eglo-esque sound in another fine addition to the space hardware catalogue.

first pressing in red black splatter! for the true and experienced lovers of authentic techno sound architecture, this record does not need much presentation. cari lekebusch has since the beginning of the 1990s been releasing a steady stream of vinyl records as well as all types of digital formats. since 1986 the personal label project of cari has been going through many phases of change. one of them being the ending of the hyb catalog numbered vinyl releases, and the beginning of the hp and hpx catalogs. to mark a reset and a >return to base<, cari is morphing the grid once again and will now continue the hyb catalog that shifted into the hp and hpx catalogs around 1997. the retro sounding audio-pictures of >return to base 1 & 2< are intentionally created with the various h-productions releases in mind, that came out around 1993-1997. both tracks are created with a cool, stripped down approach and recorded live with only what 2 hands can muster at once. live and direct from the hybrid productions headquarters! and not a cheeseburger break in sight! - with warm regards from stockholm

with sounds as smooth as butter and grooves as juicy as jam fillings, joe the baker gill has cooked up two fondant slabs of disco funk right here. theres a sweaty post-punk sheen to cant explain thanks its slaphappy bassline, fuzzy guitars and sultry vocals. mamba gascoine, meanwhile, is a foggier, swampy slice of cosmic, dub-minded funk designed for the darker, heads-down moments. remix-wise the everreliable emperor machine step forward with two epic, 10-minute workouts that explore every possible corner of joes jiggling, party-friendly groove.

the head of grounded theory berlin returns to sonic groove with his strongest outing on the label to date. henning baer brings forth a rough and tough diverse four cut ep of chunky rhythmatic techno. recording the songs during live jams and using a previously decided pool of hardware this ep has a nice old school vibe. the sound production however is very much in the modern day with its well crafted mix downs. this release has strong mass appeal for the purist techno connoisseur.

exciting 2nd release on the roze balletten label from belgium by a (new?) artist named walrus. a lovely 6track ep with a blend of house tracks ranging from melodic moody, jazzy acid injected to playful and even more stripped straight forward cuts. a new wave of bedroom producers is slowly penetrating the dance floors. excellent release that will go down well with fans of like minded releases mood hut records or going good for example.

we left herva & dukwa with a bunch of bangers with their latest ep -it fell down-… we found em back only after few months with their first lifes track longer player featuring an impressive variety of styles but always with their unmissable, raw and twisted up touch. this album of 8 tracks, spread in one twelve and a seven inches, starts on a side with the funky break of -needed-, continuing with the deep driving moment of -amore- and the hip hop beat of -put it on-. on the flip side instead we find the catchy vocal riff of the stomping roller called -freak with us- followed by the soulful ghetto tech vibe of “call it you” and the melancholic, romantic, stoned and rotten lullaby of -tired brass-. more tasty and unusual grooves are included in the tiny wax which close the record up, on a side the peaceful, abstract, suspended and atmospheric dimensions of * play with me* and on the other the glow-fi-sh and -emo--tech wave of -venere-. unmissible!

the peer pressure ep from the under-rated mark forshaw finds scenery records once again highlighting the rich strain of local production talent in the liverpool area. involved in the merseyside scene since the 90s, forshaw has released on labels like mathematics, tabernacle and apartment and is also a member of phantom planet outlaws with john heckle and binny. if you ve checked forshaw s prior output you will be happy with peer pressure as soon as the grubby, jacked up house of the title track hits its groove, with his four other cuts heading down a similarly unpredictable path. kudos to scenery for seeking out swedish producer daniel andreasson to remix the title track too! this is another no nonsense ep from scenery that is lovably rugged and unpredictably creative

finale sessions founder michael zucker steps into the limelight with his first full ep for the label in the five years it has been running. zucker has of course featured on a handful of split releases from finale but he doesn t waste any of the space afforded here with a quartet of superb and varied productions. leading the way, techno track his spirit bristles with life and percussive energy whilst inner city peace will likely raise some interested eyebrows in west london thanks to its killer broken beat programming. face down, zucker dips into his personal archives for an unreleased and rather crisp remix of introspective and jenifa mayanja hookup when the rain comes down whilst the wonderfully named spiritual graffiti ends the release on a high note

phorma releases ion, a nine-minute dub techno piece by adam craft reminiscing rainy nights on stockholms sveavagen. on the flip side, dimi angelis and jeroen search transform this vibe into a stripped-down yet powerful tool to work the early hours.

waehlscheibe is back: the swiss label keeps on doing what it does best and releases another truly deep and dubby house record. this time its japanese artist takuya morita known for his releases on morris / audio and adjunct who pleases with soft pads and chords, rich delays and ultra low basses. all four tracks on this record are strictly instrumental and oscillate nicely between deep house and techno. moreover, they cover a wide range of moods suitable for playing at various times of the night. the >placid sunset ep< comes with a special 2nd version of the title track which has been reconstructed and stripped down by s&ro and alessandro crimi from waehlscheibe. as always all tracks have been mastered by above smoke at the hole of dub studio.
